Moving from the 1960's to the 1600's

A home built in 1959 in the Oakland Hills....a beautiful piece of country that acts like a sanctuary in the midst of a large city-scape of bustling activity...

The front entrance was created much later with cinder blocks that just got primed and painted white....

...and had been like this for over 25 years.

Lately as they were looking for some spark upon driving up to the entrance of their home, the owners wanted to feel more like they would be reminded of their home of origin: Greece.

I took an apricot basecoat color and then applied a purplish-brown glaze overlay to help create a look of old world that brought all the plantings and natural surroundings to life again. The cinder blocks now appear more stone-like and the interior squarish cement appears more like old tiles.
